Collaboration means working hand in hand together to achieve a goal or something.
Cooperation means the act of working together to achieve a common goal through compliance.
The difference between the both is that collaboration is working towards a goal, while cooperation is working towards a goal with compliance.
The sheep's in the video didn't really understand the aim of the shepherds; they were only working in compliance which is the state of conforming with or agreeing to do something.
The shepherds didn't moan about the sheep because the sheep were just acting as they were supposed to act and the shepherds weren't expecting any kind of compliance from them.
In a team, I believe what would be required most will be both collaboration and cooperation, otherwise there won't be harmony in the team and achieving the goal would be near impossible.
In conclusion to the video, viral marketing is all about awareness through referrals for instance can be forwarded to friends and share on social websites.

To collaborate is purely to come together as a team and understand the goal or target that one is trying to achieve.
It also involves the sharing of knowledge and understanding to overcome obstacles.
Cooperating I see is more submissive and being actively responsive and understanding to the requirements that you have been asked.
The dogs maybe do not understand the human's aims of the extreme shepherding experiment but they seem happy to follow the set instructions given by their master. Just as if they were shepherding sheep's normally in a farm is perhaps the same behaviour patterns the dogs were following.
Technically speaking it would have been impossible for this experiment to be carried out correctly without the roles of the dogs and the sheep's.
The sheep's were behaving normally just as a sheep would behave. And behaving in a uncooperative manner.

Collaboration is something created by working jointly with another or others. Collaboration does not require people to work closely with each other each person must perform the job which has been given to them.
Cooperation is work close with another person and providing assistance
The dogs do not understand the aim of extreme sheepherding, but they do know how to herd sheep and follow instructions given to them by the shepherds and the herding would not work without them.
The sheep are doing what come natural to them when being chased by a dog, the shepherds do not moan about the sheep not working with them because they know what to expect of the sheep's they knows the sheep's limitations. They also appear to have a passion for what they are doing and that comes across in the video. Not every member of a team need to know the goal is for it to be a successful outcome, all that is required is for all of the members to do the task which they are assigned to do.
In order for this whole effort to be a success it requires people to see it. This is viral marketing piece and it requires collaboration from a larger number of people in order to be seen its success depends on people seeing the video and then sending it on to other people to see. I manufacturer behind this piece expects that as result of this advertisement people will better recognise and remember their brand, which will hopefully lead to more people purchasing their products.

i like jubril's statement about the sheeps behaving in an uncooperative manner..lol
ReplyDeleteThis is very well thought out and pensive. You have put some effort into this. Good!
ReplyDeleteDo you think there is a difference between cooperation and collaboration?
ReplyDeleteBy the way, you can make this posts separate - that way each person's name will be attached to their post and you don't have to add your names. Try that next time.
I'm impressed with this blog though. It is thoughtful and thought provoking.
I think there is a difference! I feel far more comfortable to collaborate with someone over just cooperating.
ReplyDeleteI really liked what Jubril said about Cooperating is more submissive and being actively responsive and understanding to the requirements that you have been asked. It describes more or less everything that cooperating involves.
ReplyDeleteI feel there is definitely a difference between cooperation and collaboration. Groups or individuals who work in a cooperation often impose restrictions on themselves in order for them to work together to achieve a shared goal. Groups who work in a collaboration of then do their own individual task without work closely with others
ReplyDeleteI beleive collaboration implies working through active communication, otherwise there would be a lot of misunderstanding in the long run..also i agree with your description of cooperation because in order to achieve the teams goal, its sometimes best to restrict yourself.
